On the afternoon of April 14th, 2016, a standoff occurred between a porcupine and a puppy dog. The neighborhood porcupine was disturbed when Titus, a recently adopted rescue dog, wandered too close to the porcupine’s nest. In self-defense, the porcupine lodged a quill in Titus’s lip, resulting in a few minutes of loud barking and a trip to the veterinarian’s office for Titus. No permanent damage occurred, except perhaps the wounded pride of the daughter and husband of Ann Shaw, who had repeatedly warned the pair not to let Titus off the leash. The porcupine was unharmed.
